Highway 97 has re-opened north of Williams Lake after two-vehicle crash closed the road Tuesday morning, April 30,

North District RCMP media relations Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said a semi and an SUV were involved in the crash, shortly after 9 a.m. at Lynes Creek Road near the Tyee Lake turnoff.

“The driver of the semi was injured, however the injuries do not appear to be life threatening,” Saunderson said. “The driver of the SUV was air lifted to hospital in critical condition.”

Saunderson noted the crash shut down Highway 97 to all traffic and RCMP and emergency personnel responded.

“The semi had caught fire and threatened surrounding trees. Fire rescue has the fire under control. The investigation is in its infancy and causal factors have yet to be determined. Early indications are that the SUV may have crossed the centre line.”

As of noon there was a detour available via the Likely Road through Beaver Lake Road.
